This intensive 5-day workshop is designed for documentary producers developing a feature project with international potential.
In parallel to the third session of EURODOC 2018 the workshop – led by a senior producer with international experience – will offer the possibility to gain a deeper insight into international co-productions and the market, and to create a network with documentary professionals from different countries.

Participants will have the opportunity to

  • receive in-depth feedback and advice from the senior producer
  • benefit from interventions by commissioning editors and experts invited for the session
  • attend masterclasses and quality case studies
  • network with European and international documentary professionals.

Directed and produced several award winning theatrical documentaries like „12 Tangos – Adios Buenos Aires“, „Chandani – the daughter of the elephant whisperer“ (German Film Award LOLA for best childrens feature 2011), „Sound of Heimat – Germany sings“ and „Beltracchi – the art of forgery“ (German Film Academy Award LOLA for best documentary 2014).  With his production company Fruitmarket he works with Directors like Milo Rau (“The Congo Tribunal”), Uli Gaulke (“Comrades in Dreams”), Enrique Sánchez Lansch (“Rhythm is it”), Yasemin Samdereli (“Almanya”), Tonje Hesse Schei (“Drone”) and others. Fruitmarket productions have been screened at Festivals like Berlin, Locarno, HotDocs, Yamagata, CPH:DOX, IFF Rotterdam, Sheffield and have been sold to Broadcasters and platforms worldwide. Birkenstock serves as an instructor in film schools and as a member of several award- and film funding juries in Germany and Switzerland.
