A good lead character is essential to telling a story and moving viewers. A successful figure is the fruit of collaboration between several talents: that of the scriptwriters, the actors, the animators and the character designer.
It is the latter who first visually depicts a figure presented in a script, beginning with a simple sketch and onwards to a precise visual description. Coming up with a proposal in the form of an appropriate and original design entails shapes, rhythms, proportions, anatomy, costumes and colours.
Resorting to case studies and practical exercises, participants will have a chance to perfect themselves in the field of character design. Those who so wish are encouraged to present their ongoing projects for discussion with the rest of the participants.
