Production Value 2010 – Making-Of
What the Juniors Say About It
Mina S. Holdhus, Norway
FOCAL offers you all of this: too much responsibility and too little time – as well as making sure that you have too little experience to solve the given task. But this time it is part of the game. Only, your bad decisions do not have the fatal consequences it would in real life. FOCAL offers much‐needed feedback in a workshop which is as close to a real‐life filmmaking‐situation as possible. I had a both terrible and wonderful week in Retz.
Colin Azzopardi, Malta
In that one week, I probably learnt more about filmmaking than I have in 8 years doing it. Why the hell am I in this job? Why do I do this to myself? But being around the people I met at Production Value reminded me of why all the pain and frustration we go through sometimes is worth it.
Lorenzo Zambelli Hosmer, Italy
That’s what I really loved about the workshop, sitting at the same table with professionals with unbelievable experiences in their past, ready to share it with you, not because they have to... but because they love to do it!
Judith Lichtneckert, Switzerland
I’ll definitely recommend Production Value to anyone longing for a boost of information and inspiration.
Marta Habior, Poland
Production Value presents a way of filmmaking that I have never experienced in my few years working within the film industry in Poland. I hope and believe I can “make the difference” by bringing all I have learned in Austria back here.
Sander Donker, Netherlands
I feel very rich: I met intelligent, nice, funny and talented people that have the same kind of problems. I learned about my craft, and gained insight into the art of filmmaking. I learned about the differences and similarities between the styles in filmmaking in Europe.
Aldo Tardozzi, Croatia
It was not, of course, something that can replace years of working, but it provided me the way of how to look on my past career and, more important, how to search the next steps in the future. And that's not something that is supposed to be easy.
Roland Stebler, Switzerland
Production Value shows in an idealistic manner what the setup should be like to make a movie. As a line producer, you are certainly not able to create such a fruitful environment on your own. Knowing its importance I will do my very best to get the job done in the future.
Kaspar Lerch, Germany
I think this workshop was the best decision for my career as an Assistant Director. Getting to know so many great people, it was hard to leave and it felt unreal that it was over when I left. If possible, I would participate every year.
Asa Karlsson, Sweden
The participation of Production Value has been one of the greatest moments of my working life. Working with feature films and TV-series is always intense. I’m used to that. But this was so much more…. I can say that for the first time in my life I totally understood what the expression ”live and breathe” something means. I feel that for the entire week I lived and breathed Production Value.
Kirsten Sohrauer, Germany
I also realized to be very careful with every single word in the script; it can provoke enormous consequences for the schedule and the budget.
James Velasquez, Sweden
Talking with the juniors that were present really opened my eyes to a lot of things. They made me realize that we share the same problems and seemed to want the same things in the end.
