Working Conditions in Ireland
Permits:
EU citizens are treated as equal. Other citizens need a working permit.
Working Hours
- Standard is 50hrs per week, 5 by 10hr days including 1 hr for lunch
- Or 55hrs per week, 5 by 11hr days.
- Sometimes 11 day fortnights are scheduled 5+6 days
- Work starts between 7am to 12am; even if day starts later than 12am it is deemed to have started at 12am.
- Continuous working day (which must be called as such): 9 hrs between 7am & 9pm.
- Work on Sixth day = additional 50% of daily fee
- Work on Seventh day and declared holiday = basic fee + 100% daily fee.
Overtime
- All hours worked in excess of 39hrs per week for electricians only (all other shooting crew is based on the 50 hour net week above)
- Overtime = 50% of daily rate per hour or part thereof
- Nightwork = basic fee + 33% daily fee
- Public holidays working paid at 100%

- Split Days (shooting up to midnight) can be scheduled to avoid night shoot premiums and penalties. The main penalty is a paid rest day after night shooting.

SPI IS THE IRISH PRODUCER'S ASSOCIATION.
SIPTU IS THE MAIN UNION REPRESENTING FILM WORKERS.
There are three tiers of minimum payment depending on the scale of the budget involved. SEE CURRENT RATE CARD. Rates are linked to ELIGIBLE IRISH SPEND.
Social Benefits
Employer’s part is 10.95%
Holiday pay is + 8.0 %
Allowances
Per diem for working away from home: negotiable. normally 20-30 euro per day
Per diem for working away from home on non-shooting day: normally 40 euro per day
Mileage Allowance: .49 euro per kilometer.
However free travel zones around the Dublin area.
Actors' Rates (Minimum)
Daily: 850 euro minimum for buyout.
Weekly: 5-day work for 4-day pay.
Equity agreement currently being renegotiated.
For stunt performers, average 750 euro per day
For Children/Minors - average rate 250 euros per day. A special Government licence is required for these performers. Chaperone (100-150 per day by negotiation)
Extras
Background Artist: Day rate average 110 euros per day.
Walk-On Artist: Average Daily rate 200 euros per day.

A new agreement is currently being negotiated but not finalised yet so technically, the 2010 Agreement is still in place. However, rates have evolved and a list of the current market rates are attached separately. These are not part of any formal agreement, but budgets should reflect these market rates
