What should your story be, and why and how should you tell it? A documentary film needs more than a relevant topic or interesting protagonists. All material demands an original narrative approach, an adequate form and a stance towards the subject that permeates the film. Journalism prioritises objectivity and offers answers. In creative documentary film, however, it is the questions which create tension. The guiding principle is subjectivity.
Tamara Trampe and Cornelia Klauss ask how we can reach this subjectivity with our material and develop a unique individual style. In this workshop dialogue, they distil the essence of their experience as filmmakers and dramatic advisers.
