The Faculty of Design of the Lucerne School of Art and Design is hosting the first Lucerne International Animation Academy from December 8 to 11, 2009. The goal of this symposium is to encourage a theoretical debate on current and historical issues of animation as an independent form of ‹Moving Pictures Production›. In presentations, debates and screenings, over 30 acclaimed lecturers - practitioners and theoreticians - will discuss the specifics of dramaturgy in animated films. Invited guests include Yuri Norstein, the Quay Brothers, Richard Williams, Joan Ashworth, Paul Bush, Oksana Cherkasova and Gil Alkabetz.
Within this framework, AnimaPLUS is happy to feature a special offer for 10 professionals: On Wednesday, December 9, they can enjoy an exclusive encounter with Normand Roger, the highly renowned Canadian composer of over 200 soundtracks, at an animated dinner. Normand Roger worked on films by Frédéric Back, Paul Driessen, Caroline Leaf and Michael Dudok De Wit. During dinner, he will show some of his films, followed by a talk sharing his vast experience on the dramaturgical function of music in animated films. We recommend to participate in the LIAA during this whole day at least.

Normand Roger
Born in Montreal in 1949, Normand Roger began his career as a freelance composer in 1970 for the National Film Board of Canada, where he created well over 200 sound tracks for animation. He also worked on the creation of music for documentaries, feature films, television dramas, children's series, commercials, and new technologies with 3D and virtual reality. He is the composer of many original soundtracks for Frédéric Back, Paul Driessen, Michaël Dudok De Wit, Chris Landreth, Graig Welch, Caroline Leaf and Wendy Tilby. Among the thirteen of his works nominated for Academy Awards, seven won. Normand Roger lectures throughout the world on music and sound for animation.
