Acting for Directors is a seminar on directing actors, allowing directors to walk in the shoes of the actors and enabling them to understand the work of an actor at first hand. Sylwia Kaczmarek, a talented and sympathetic trainer, is persuaded that this brings them into greater intimacy with their characters and story. This experience teaches them how to communicate freely, precisely and creatively with the actors/actresses.

The participants will spend two days working on very simple scenes that focus on key elements of the Sanford Meisner approach, such as the need and the want, personalisation, acting tactics and emotional preparation. These ideas can be used with actors who are unfamiliar with the Meisner method. On the third day, the directors will analyse more complex scenes. On day four, they will have the opportunity to explore these scenes and develop their points of view through improvisations by two actors/actresses. On the last day, all participants will direct two actors/actresses in the scene that they have analysed and explored and then present their work and share the difficulties that they have encountered. This immersion seminar will be held at Warsaw, where Sylwia teaches at the Laboratorium Meisnera, the school she founded.

Sylwia Kaczmarek
After training as an actress, Sylwia Kaczmarek felt the need to share what she had learnt. She has taught the Sanford Meisner technique with rigour, clarity and passion since 2009, initially at The Actors Temple in London and, since 2012, at her school, the Laboratorium Meisnera, in Warsaw. In addition to her work as an actress, Sylwia coaches actors, directors and scriptwriters, and she is also the president of the Act 4 Art Foundation and the co-founder of the Furness Kaczmarek Studio.
