For the new generation of filmmakers after the DSLR Revolution, there are no longer clear boundaries between filming and directing. The technical evolution has produced cameras capable of delivering a hitherto unequalled image quality.

What kinds of films are shot this way? Will we shoot our documentaries all on our own in the future? Or is this merely a method for ambitious amateurs without a budget? James Longley is one of those filmmakers who, equipped with camera and microphone, set out on their own. His works have earned him two Oscar nominations already. He lives in crisis areas for months, where he shoots footage. In James Longley's master class, participants will get in-depth insight into the meaning of 'independent filmmaking' on all levels.
