Pitch
A seminar focusing on communications between actors and directors.
In this workshop Cherolyn Franklin will focus on communication between actors and directors on the film and TV production sets. As a coach, she will point out where communication problems may arise, with special attention to a certain number of specific questions: From the actors' point of view: How can I understand what the director wants? How can I reconcile technique and time pressure with emotions? And from the directors' point of view: How can I communicate my visions, and how can I get the actors to carry them out?
Participants will work on scenes taken from American, German and Swiss scripts. The directors will have the possibility of submitting and working with their own scripts. Two cameramen will be available to shoot the scenes. A special editing section will offer all participants in the directors' group the opportunity to cut a scene themselves, under the supervision of an editor (evenings). The results will be screened and discussed in a plenary session.
Two half-day Question and Answer Sessions - one at the start and one at the end of the workshop - are planned to allow members of each group to bring up questions of particular concern to them.
